Hewdens work recognised by FTA Roadworthiness Awards

In recognition of its high standards of maintaining both vehicles and trailers, and controlling driver related defects, British plant hirer Hewden has received the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA) Roadworthiness Award.

The prestigious Roadworthiness Awards highlight FTA members’ efforts to keep their fleets safe, legal and efficient, recognise excellent standards of vehicle safety, condition and maintenance standards in the UK, and are designed to encourage and reward high standards of compliance with vehicle condition legislation.

As one of the largest plant hire and equipment rental company’s in the UK and Europe, Hewden supports professional contractors and builders, with a core fleet of 30 machine types – including excavators, backhoes, rollers, telehandlers, dumpers and access platforms. It was the work of the organisations Bangor depot in particular that was recognised for its high standards and ultimately won the FTA Award.

Lee Scarlett, FTA Head of Contract Relations said:
"We are delighted to present Hewden with another FTA Roadworthiness Award. Their Bangor depot in particular was selected to receive the award in recognition of a very strong performance in controlling driver related defects. This combined with having the lowest overall number of defects for both vehicles and trailers in their national fleet demonstrated the overall excellent condition of vehicles operated by this depot."

FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) introduced the Roadworthiness Award scheme in 2008 for members of the Association using VIS, in order to recognise those clearly demonstrating that they were operating a safe, legal and reliable fleet of commercial vehicles. VIS has recently up- graded its management information service to the VIS Gateway, which allows users of the service to view their vehicle inspection results and benchmark performance against manufacturer, vehicle type, model, driver, industry sector and provides internal / depot comparisons.

Kevin Buckler Transport Compliance Manager Hewden commented:
"Hewden is delighted to be the recipient of the prestigious FTA Roadworthiness Award. It is rewarding to know that our commitment to operating a safe and compliant fleet of HGVs by using FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service, benchmarking reports has been recognised."
