HIPPOWASTE waste management expands its national truck fleet network

Waste management firm HIPPOWASTE has opened three new local transport depots as it expands its national fleet network. The three new depots are in Plymouth, London South and London West and take the total number of HIPPOWASTE depots to fifteen.

With this enhanced national spread, it will be even easier for HIPPOWASTE vehicles to reach customers, with more trucks available and at short notice for larger volumes.

HIPPOWASTE has already introduced three significantly smaller collection vehicles to its fleet, dedicated to collecting its innovative skip alternative HIPPOBAGs from jam-packed city centres and smaller roads where access is restricted.

The trio of 7.5 tonne ISUZU vehicles within the fleet were purpose-built with a bespoke design to handle and accommodate the bright yellow polypropylene HIPPOBAGs and will make the service more accessible to householder and business customers in densely populated areas such as London – where two of the new depots have opened. They are also used as a premium additional service and to collect loose waste from construction sites.

These vehicles have a capacity of 2.5 tonnes – the equivalent of seven large HIPPOBAGs – and are fitted with a larger than normal crane for this size of vehicle, providing lifting power of 1.6 tonnes at a reach of 5.1 metres, and 2.3 tonnes at 3.5 metres.

Gareth Lloyd Jones, managing director of HIPPOWASTE, says the additional depots and growing fleet of vehicles make the whole national HIPPOWASTE operation smoother and more efficient:

"More depots and more vehicles in the fleet mean that the HIPPOWASTE service can be more flexible. Not only are we closer to the individual and corporate customer, but also the vehicles will have to travel shorter distances – which means less congestion on the roads and a more environmentally friendly service. We already operate a national UK mainland collection service and endeavour to fulfil every customer’s collection."

The extension to the number of HIPPOWASTE depots is part of national resource and logistical expansion activities within the company. All vehicles are equipped to the highest specification to ensure safe and efficient collection of the bag and maximum safety and protection for both operatives and customers.

HIPPOWASTE operates depots in Birmingham, Bristol Coventry, East Anglia, Gloucester, London East, London North, London South, London West, Manchester, Northampton, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Scotland.
