Hormann adopts planet positive approach

Industrial door and Loading Bay manufacturer, Hörmann UK, has taken a major step to increase its sustainability credentials and help minimise the effect of its products on the environment.

The German owned company has appointed carbon and sustainability consultancy, dcarbon8, to assess the carbon footprint of the business and identify additional measures that can be taken to reduce the impact of its office operations and product manufacturing processes.

Hörmann is the first industrial door and loading bay equipment manufacturer in the UK to procure the services of a specialist sustainability consultancy, a move that further highlights the Hörmann Group's commitment to eco-friendly operation.

dcarbon8 provides a complete solution with the primary aim of reducing global warming by promoting responsible environmental and sustainable practices. This is achieved by encouraging companies to develop loyal and strategic environmental business alliances throughout the supply chain from supplier to consumer.

The goal is for a business or product to achieve Plant Positive status, which effectively means that the business has the right procedures in place to positively contribute to the reduction of global warming.

“It is our job to assist companies to identify the areas of their overall operations where their carbon footprint can be reduced,” explains dcarbon8 chairman Guy Battle. “The carbon issue is here to stay and all manufacturers need to be aware that adopting a more environmentally responsible approach is not just good for the planet, it's also good for business.”

Alan Jenkins, commercial director of Hörmann's industrial division, believes implementing dcarbon8's Planet Positive approach will help the company steal and edge in the industrial door market.

“We already have a high-quality product and service, but in certain instances now and certainly in years to come, this may not be enough. The days when green solutions were seen as an added extra are over and they are now regarded as integral to the infrastructure of buildings.

“The Hörmann Group already utilises effective environmental management systems. By having dcarbon8 on board we can take those to a new level and that is certainly something that will appeal to customers.”
