How leading roller door suppliers applied logistics to a logistic firm

Logistics experts TDG (UK) Ltd are a supply chain management company who specialise in the seamless movement of goods and materials to the right place at the right time, every time. The company have been working in partnership with companies from the chemical, consumer goods, industrial and retail sectors for over 50 years.

When it was decided that the existing dock leveller doors on five different loading bays at their Stephenson Way handling plant in Thetford, Norfolk, needed replacing the company called in the UK's leading roller shutter door and dock leveller supplier, Ro-Dor.

The company's PVCu roller shutter doors are widely used throughout every part of the UK food industry in preparation areas, processing departments and chill rooms. Ro-Dor also supply dock levellers to assist the efficient loading or unloading of the various height vehicles that visit site.

The task that faced Ro-Dor was to supply and fit all five roller shutter doors during one weekend and the company's team of specialist engineers had to remove the old doors and fit the new models together with stiffening bars and windlock washers for added protection during windy weather. An internal electric push button control with an interface facility was included so that the leveller would not operate until the door opened.

Four of the doors measured 2.3m wide by 2.5m high while the fifth was much larger at 2m wide by 3.4m in height. Liaison with TDG (UK)'s Area Engineer, Mr Peter Dawkins, to ensure the correct size enclosures were provided to be mounted correctly was a fundamental part of the package provided by Nigel Morton, Food Industry Specialist at Ro-Dor.
Ro-Dors are manufactured to exact specifications using double-skinned PVCu lathes which provide good thermal insulation and help to retain ambient temperatures while also being sturdy enough to take the knocks and bangs of busy production plants without damage. There are no exposed or greasy moving parts, which is an added hygiene benefit.
