Import Services moves into a new market with Metahouse luxury kitchen and bathroom products

South-coast company Import Services has won the full logistics operation for Metahouse, suppliers of luxury kitchen and bathroom products – expanding the specialist logistics company into a new market.

Well established in the toy and gift sector, Import Services is targeting new industries in line with its business development plans.

The Southampton firm imports and distributes goods for many key players in the toy and gift industry including Carte Blanche, Flair, Toymaster, Hornby and Playmobil. The Metahouse relationship marks an important expansion into the leisure and home improvement market, which comes hot on the heels of the Mostyn curtains warehousing and distribution contract, recently secured by Import Services.

“Business is going from strength to strength and we are poised for further growth, with new showrooms in the pipeline,” said Alex Di Re general manager of Bournemouth-based Metahouse, who provides major property developers with kitchen and bathroom products, supplies bathroom showrooms in the south, London and the midlands, and also has a public showroom in Bournemouth.

“We wanted an established, reliable and flexible third party logistics partner to manage the physical movement of all our stock and Import Services is exactly the right choice.”

Metahouse has appointed the logistics specialist to manage all aspects of its shipping, warehousing operations, order processing, high volume pick, pack and distribution throughout the UK.

Alex continued: “We have some very delicate items which require careful handling and also some multi-part products which need to be consolidated before distribution. Import Services' logistics expertise in the toy and gift industry demonstrates its skill in shipping high volume pick and pack with a vast range of products including fragile objects. It has developed highly efficient barcode systems to streamline working practices and keep track of multi-part merchandise.

“Our decision to choose Import Services was also influenced by its excellent work flow efficiencies. The company has a superb computer system with an impressive back-end IT structure which is easy to use and enables us to track and trace the progress of all our consignments.”

Import Services will manage the shipment of Metahouse product from Europe and the far east into the UK, plus consolidate storage, order processing and nationwide distribution. Requests and returns from property developers and other sites will also be under the careful control of Import Services.

“Import Services is delighted to be selected by Metahouse to support their business expansion plans,” said Mike Thomas client services director at Import Services.

“We offer reliability, efficiency and straight-forward systems to provide a clear picture of stock and product movement and 98.8% of all our orders in 2006 were delivered on time – all incredibly important for present and prospective clients. A passionate team combined with great facilities and systems ensure we are capable of meeting tight deadlines, this is why Import Services is selected by innovative clients such as Metahouse,” added Mike.

Import Services, which has three warehouses in and around Southampton provides a full door to door logistics service, from accounting services, purchase order tracking, storage, order processing, labelling, picking, packing and distribution.
