It’s raining cats and dogs for one way trip pallet specialist IPP Logipal

Leading one-way trip pallet specialist, IPP Logipal has signed up another customer in the pet food sector after securing a new contract with Mackle Petfoods, Ireland’s fastest growing pet food manufacturer, to supply a major UK supermarket chain.

Based in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Mackle is an independent family business established since 1972. Working closely with vets and specialist pet nutritionists, the company sources local and natural ingredients to continuously develop its range of wet and dry cat and dog foods to meet the nutritional needs of family pets. Key brand names include Brandy and Champion.

With an IPP Logipal distribution depot located close to its own hub in Portadown, Mackle took the one-way trip specialist into consideration when evaluating its supply chain operation for a key contract with a leading UK supermarket retailer. The company quickly established that IPP Logipal exceeded all its requirements with high-quality pallets, on-line tracking, key management data and a cost-effective service.

"We recognised IPP Logipal’s increasing presence in our sector and strong reputation with leading supermarket retailers," commented Derek Guilfoyle, Warehousing and Distribution Manager at Mackle Pet Foods. "Once we started consultations and saw how simple it was to administer the process and reduce costs, the decision to appoint IPP Logipal made sound commercial sense."

As a result of the close proximity of sites, the manufacturer chooses to collect pallets from IPP Logipal’s Portadown depot using its own fleet of vehicles on empty return legs, helping to reduce its supply chain costs even further, minimise CO2 emissions and run a more efficient operation.

Once deliveries have been made to the retailer’s distribution centres across the UK, using its simple one-way trip system, IPP Logipal then collects the pallets directly and carries out a range of quality control inspections before returning to its national pallet pooling network for re-use. This ensures its reputation for supplying consistently high-quality pallets is maintained.
