JCB Transmissions celebrates three decades of success

JCB Transmissions is celebrating 30 years in business as a manufacturer of high quality, technologically advanced gear boxes and axles.

The company, set up in 1978 with less than a dozen employees in a single factory on the Wrexham Industrial Estate in Wrexham, Wales, today employs more than 450 people in two plants covering a total area of 450,000 sq ft: one manufacturing gear boxes and the other axles.

Over the past 30 years the company has become the main supplier of gear boxes and axles for JCB. The Wrexham site is also home of International Transmissions Ltd (ITL), which sells transmissions, axles and engine components to third party customers around the world. ITL was set up in 1985 and works closely with OEMs to provide driveline and powertrain solutions with axles, transmissions and engines for on and off highway applications. Last year ITL won a Queen's Award for Enterprise to mark a 134 increase in overseas sales over three years .

JCB Group Director, Components, Steve Carrington said: "It's great to be marking 30 years of designing, manufacturing and selling axles and gear boxes. This is a massive achievement and milestone for the company and all of our employees.

"The business has a very sound manufacturing base producing high quality, technologically advanced products. We have many new and innovative products in the pipeline to keep us ahead of the competition and ensure the future success of this business."
