WITH INVESTMENT, NEW DIRECTORS AND AN EXPANDING CUSTOMER BASE.
TAMWORTH-based JDR DISTRIBUTION'S new 'moved4u' delivery gateway service has made an impressive start since its launch in the summer, having acquired substantial investment, a new board of directors and a fast-expanding customer base.
The service is a low-cost, simplified way to book and ship multi single-load pallet deliveries to customers in post codes, ranging from Lancashire in the north to Oxford in the south, and from Wales in the west to East Anglia in the east. The service is obligation-free and accessible 24/7. It entails no contracts, no commitments and no minimum input, just a 'use-as-you-need' service, available either online or by telephone.
While JDR stress that 'moved4u' is not a pallet network, their research has shown that many shippers who are part of an established pallet network would appreciate a less rigid, alternative option for some of their delivery schedules, and so will welcome access to the 'moved4u' service, which is considerably more flexible and therefore more cost-effective for them. Its ad-hoc availability will provide them with a choice to channel some of their big-volume deliveries into multi single-load consignments to postcodes covered by the 'moved4u' service, and so reduce their costs. JDR can report that some of these shippers are already taking advantage of the service
In October, JDR secured £1/4 million investment for future growth from a variety of sources, including the DTI-backed Advantage Early Growth Fund, as well as a group of Business Angels from around the midlands.
At the same time, the main board has been strengthened with the appointment of three new directors, with excellent credentials. These are MIKE PIPER, a former director of 3i venture capital business, who becomes Chairman, DECLAN MELLETT, a director of the highly successful investment and development fund Tichsa2, who takes over the marketing activities, and PETER BROWN, from investment company AEGF.
JARROD BAUGHAN leads the company as Managing Director, but two new internal staff promotions have been made, namely JIM PERRY as Operations Director, and STUART PEGG as Commercial Director, with responsibility to develop IT and customer service
Since its inception in June of this year, 'moved4u' has enjoyed a dramatic take-up of its service by some of the biggest transport companies in the country, including Wincanton, DSV, Red Head International, Leach Distribution, Malcolm Logistics, Minor Weir & Willis and the METSEC Group. The feedback from these companies has been very positive.
Says Jarrod Baughan: "It is now generally accepted that we are not a pallet network, but a credible delivery gateway service, catering for any size and type of delivery. We are therefore attracting a lot of interest from a diverse range of transport businesses who are simply looking for better ways of fulfilling their delivery commitments, at the right time and at the right price. The main attraction to them is that our service offers a seamless IT link, via online book-in and drop-off facility, with no constraints, and is totally flexible to meet their needs and those of their customers"
