KONECRANES UK, based in East Kilbride in Scotland, has won another order to supply four SMD cranes to the Smulders Projects wind turbine base production facility in Belgium. The previous order being delivered in September 2009 is for 2 x 240t and 2 x 15t cranes.
The Smulders Projects organisation has already gained quite some experience as one of the pioneers in the production of offshore windmill foundations.
Working at 37.3 metre span, the 100 tonne SMD cranes will be fully equipped with KONECRANES DynA Invertor variable speed control systems on all motions and are KONECRANES REMOX radio controlled with a master slave radio control facility which enables one operator to control all 1 a pair of cranes.
All hoists feature KONECRANES ControlPro Monitoring where the unit monitors the hoist operation, providing overload detection, brake wear monitoring, and calculates the crane hoist duty allowing 100% planning of maintenance activities to suit the actual duty. The unit also stores and records the number of cycles, overload attempts and temperature trips.
They are also fitted with overload protection, thermistors, ultimate limit switches on each hoist as well as the normal operating hoist/lower limit switches, 2-step travel and traverse limit switches, along with girder and trolley platforms, festoon cables, floodlights, panel lighting and panel heating.
The contract worth Euros 1.5m will be delivered during December this year and January 2010.
