Local firm backs triathletes

Triathletes in Rugby have been given a boost thanks to sponsorship from a local firm.

ByBox, the nationwide flexible supply chain delivery firm which has its UK hub in Coventry, has pledged £750 to help both the adult and junior sections at Rugby Triathlon Club.

The money will be used to help buy “trisuits”, which will be a first for the Junior club. The remaining monies will also go towards the purchase of additional kit for adult members.

Ages of the juniors range from eight to sixteen and the purchase of the trisuits will significantly help these young athletes in competition during the forthcoming second season.

Delighted chairman of the Junior club Ian Payne initially approached ByBox – for whom he works – for help with funds for the juniors.

“I spoke to General Manager Mandy Rodgers about it and she said she would be delighted to give us money for both sections of the club so we are over the moon,” said Ian.

“The junior club has only been running for a year and a half but it already has around 40 regulars and the adult club with 60 members.

The new tri-suits, which are special skin tight swim suits, are made especially for athletes to have a fast transition through the swimming, biking and running sections without having to change clothing.

“Triathlon the fastest growing sport in the country and this money will make a real difference to the club, so we would like to say a big thank-you to ByBox.”

ByBox was established in Coventry seven years ago and now has 11 distribution centres across the UK, operating a network of 18,000 boxes at over 1,200 locations across the UK. It gives customers, who include Siemens, Coca-Cola, the RAC and Fujitsu, guaranteed pre-8am delivery six days a week at the sites of the boxes, and now makes 20 million deliveries per year.

“The business has grown phenomenally since it was launched but it is important we don't lose sight of the local community,” says Mandy Rodgers.

“Putting something back into local clubs and causes is part of being a responsible firm, so when Ian approached me I was delighted to be able to help.

“I hope this money gives club members a boost and helps the club continue to flourish.”

The triathlon club meets at Rugby School Sports Centre on a Sunday for the juniors and Tuesdays and Sundays for the adults. For further details, visit www.rugbytriathlon.co.uk
