Lord’s Cricket Ground is one of the world’s most famous cricket venues. Owned by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and established in 1814, Lord’s is widely referred to as the "Home of Cricket" and plays host to some of the biggest international competitions every season – including in 2013 an England v Australia Test Match.
With capacity for 28,500 spectators on a match day, a challenge within the Ground is to ensure that fans never run short of refreshments. Reliable materials handling equipment is therefore required to deliver supplies of food and beverages to the various retail outlets sited across the Ground.
Lord’s has a single counterbalance forklift truck permanently on-site, but during the England v Australia Test Match in July, which saw capacity crowds at the Ground across all four days, an extra machine was needed to cope with the spike in demand for snacks and drinks. A short term rental truck was the ideal solution, and MCC opted for a gas-powered truck from Jungheinrich’s short term rental fleet.
Speaking about the decision to work with Jungheinrich, MCC Logistics Manager, Keith Wyatt, said: "Several members of my team recommended Jungheinrich, as they had operated Jungheinrich trucks during last summer’s Olympic Games. I’m really happy with the service they provided and found everyone at Jungheinrich a joy to work with."
Jungheinrich UK Ltd has an extensive range of equipment in its short term rental fleet and has been involved with a number of high profile events during 2013.
Neil Warren, Jungheinrich UK Ltd’s Used Equipment and Short Term Rental Director, commented: "Jungheinrich continues to invest in its short term rental fleet and, as a result, we have what we believe is the youngest fleet of short term rental forklifts available.
"Because our short term rental trucks are, on average, less than two years old, our clients get state-of-the-art equipment that not only looks good but is energy efficient and ultra reliable – not a truck that has been out on contract hire for five years and comes with five years’ worth of problems!
"We were very happy to work with MCC this summer and we were proud to contribute to the smooth running of one of the most wonderful events in the English sporting calendar."
