MACO awards Witron with follow up contract

MAYER & CO Beschläge GmbH (MACO) based in Salzburg (Austria) ranks among the leading producers of fittings in Europe and offers a comprehensive range of complete lock systems. In Austria the company has a market share of more than 50%. About three quarters of the products manufactured at two Austrian production sites are exported, and this proportion is expected to increase. The manufacturer of fittings meets this strong demand by considerably expanding its distribution centre in Trieben, Styria (Austria), designed by Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH, Parkstein (Germany). The centre’s capacity will be doubled by April 2007. The extension is part of a two-phase expansion plan which MACO started to realize in September 2003 jointly with Witron as permanent project partner. Within only three years, the Austrian company invests 17 million euros, including the second construction stage, for creating additional storage capacities and optimizing the warehouse processes. The Witron technology will help MACO to perform the flexibility claimed by customers, to meet the requirements regarding production batches and delivery frequencies and to reduce the logistics expenses significantly.

In the course of the second construction stage, Witron will integrate further functionalities into the warehouse management and material flow systems and provide the distribution centre in Trieben with additional PLC technology. Moreover, the Bavarian system provider, acting as general contractor, will supply all warehouse components and the complete conveyor system, and will realize the start-up of the complete system. Including construction stage 2, the capacity of the current seven-aisle high bay warehouse will be enlarged enormously. Upon completion of the extension, MACO will be able to store standard products on about 26,000 pallet locations and long goods on an additional 4,500 locations. 14 ASRS cranes will then supply eight picking stations, two of them will be specifically equipped for picking of up to 2.5 m long lock systems. All picking stations are based on the “goods-to-man” principle. In the future, the distribution centre in Trieben will deliver finished goods to all direct-delivery-customers all over the world and to six MACO distribution subsidiaries, one of them in China.
