to protect employees working near automated conveyor syatems. Industrial safety specialist Troax has supplied its Safe-Fix machine fencing systems to leading designer and manufacturer of automated conveyor systems and mechanical handling systems, Marwel Conveyors, to enable the company to meet all the required Health and Safety standards for installations on its clients' premises.
Marwel's clients operate across a range of manufacturing and service industries and include Sandvik, Caterpillar, JCB and GKN. The company supplies conveyors and materials handling equipment for applications as diverse as aerospace component manufacture through to boiler manufacture, galvanising and paint finishing plants and pallet handling.
An essential element of Marwel's service is to provide a full risk assessment of new conveyor installations and ensure that complete physical protection is provided for staff working alongside potentially hazardous equipment. Troax's Safe-Fix machine guarding meets their requirements exactly, enabling them to enclose even the most complex conveyor configurations to provide a safe working environment.
According to Marwel Conveyors' managing director Ian Marshall, the versatility of Troax's Safe Fix fencing makes it ideal for these types of safety application as he explains: "We've used Troax's Safe Fix fencing regularly for many years now; it's easy to install and adapt on site to even the most complex conveyor and equipment layouts. It is essential for us to be able to ensure that our installations meet all the latest Health and Safety legislation and installing Safe Fix means that we can be certain we meet those standards."
Safe-Fix machine fencing is a robust, modular system of welded, wire mesh panels, constructed from steel tube for maximum strength and resistance. The panels' small mesh size of 100mm x 23mm allows close positioning to equipment, maximising the use of space yet still meeting safe distance requirements.
Safe-Fix fencing's modular construction also makes it ideal for complex equipment layouts where there are many conveyors coming in and out of an area. Fencing is fitted with doors and mechanical inter-locking systems to ensure only authorised personnel can gain access to guarded areas.
Continues Ian Marshall: "The quality of Troax's Safe-Fix fencing is excellent. It has a powder coated finish so is extremely durable and also looks good. The tight mesh size is another important advantage – it means we can position fencing close to conveyors to maximise the use of space and of course, it is too small for a hand to reach through, a fundamental safety consideration. It also goes without saying that we find Troax's service to be first class – they respond quickly to our requests, enabling us to provide a prompt and efficient service to our customers."
