Material Handling Equipment company Crown, publishes new sustainability report

Crown, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, released a new ecologic™ report that underscores the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The report highlights Crown’s recent global efforts to minimise waste, manage energy use, and maximise product and facility lifespan. It can be downloaded at crown.com.

The report also emphasises Crown’s efforts to explore and implement ecologically conscious practices in every facet of its business, illustrating a commitment to employees, communities and customers. Successes include the redevelopment of more than half a million square metres of brownfield space to date, five facilities achieving zero landfill status. In 2014, Crown’s New Knoxville plant was the first-ever facility to earn the gold-level Environmental Excellence Award from the Ohio EPA’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) program. Earlier this year, Crown became a two-time recipient of the award when its electronics assembly plant earned another gold-level award. The company also collaborates with suppliers to improve the supply chain through optimised logistics that increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

“At the end of the day, it‘s more than just being sustainable at your own company, but contributing to the world and working with everyone you touch, including customers and vendors,” said John Long, Senior Vice President Warehousing, Dot Foods. “It’s always exciting to understand partners that are committed to sustainability like Crown.”

According to Brian Duffy, Crown’s Director of Corporate Environmental and Manufacturing Safety, a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability has always been an inherent part of Crown’s business. The company and its employees understand they have a responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the health, prosperity and sustainability of future generations; and they take that responsibility seriously. From product design to truck operation, Crown makes important decisions that reduce its environmental footprint through increased energy efficiency, lean business processes, smart resource consumption and elimination of waste.
