POLYPAL HELPS PARFETTS BUILD ON CASH AND CARRY WHOLESALE SUCCESS
The sixth distribution centre and cash & carry depot opened by food and drink cash and carry specialist, Parfetts, is now operational in Sheffield and is benefiting extensively from racking and display systems installed by Polypal Ltd. The new 75,000 sq. ft. facility carries some 12,000 individual lines for distribution to a long list of independent retailers and caterers throughout the North and areas of the East Midlands.
Ambient, chilled and frozen storage requirements have been met by the Polypal design which uses a combination of lower level picking points located underneath bulk storage areas. The picking shelves have been designed in a 'stepped back' format both to bring more products into view and also to optimise the in-bay lighting. The shelving runs themselves are topped by backlit signage highlighting both brands and product ranges that spans the full width of each bay. Four pallet racking levels above take the overall storage facility to almost eight metres in height – importantly, making the most of the available space in the building.
“The fact that the layout of the racking maximises capacity was one of the key reasons for specifying the Polypal equipment at the Sheffield premises,” comments Managing Director Steve Parfett, “but the design also allows us to provide our customers suppliers with an excellent display opportunity, ensuring that customers clearly see the wide product range available.”
Some 80 promotional ends are now available at the Parfetts site, each of which comprises a backlit light box unit into which translucent display panels can be located. An additional area of floor to roof racking also features clad rack ends across each back-to-back run whichThe far end of each run of racking also provides both a further opportunity for Parfetts own branding and also an area for details of specific offers to be displayed.a secondary promotional display area.
“The installation at Parfetts totals 500 selling bays and 3,500 overstock pallet positions – all within the ambient storage area,” comments Polypal's Marketing Director John
Youle. “Additionally, 1,000 sq.ft. in the freezer room is available alongside a further 650 sq.ft. racked and shelved area in the chilled room.
“We are delighted to have been able to design and install such a comprehensive storage facility for one of the area's fastest growing food and drink cash and carry suppliers,” he adds. “We believe the facility is a good illustration of our approach to blending bulk racking with accessible shelving and promotional devices in this highly specialist sector.”
