Grieving haulier Stephen Morgan has paid tribute to his beloved daughter who passed away recently, by naming his new Mercedes-Benz truck after her.
Twelve-year-old Megan Morgan lost her brave battle to overcome a brain tumour shortly before Christmas, eight months after undergoing neurosurgery.
Her father, the proprietor of AT Morgan & Son, of Swansea Bay, took delivery of his latest Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor unit from South Wales dealer Euro Commercials on what would have been her 13th birthday.
A sister to eight-year-old Ethan and step-sister to Geraint and Catrin, Megan was a pupil of Swansea’s Olchfa Comprehensive School, and supported throughout her final months by cancer charity Latch.
Mr Morgan said: "Megan had been ill for a long time but she used to like coming down to the yard and having a look at the trucks.
"I even took her down the road a few times and she thoroughly enjoyed that. So I’ve no doubt that Megan would be thrilled to know that the latest addition to our fleet bears her name as it travels all over the country and, indeed, into Europe."
AT Morgan & Son is a family business that was founded in 1975 by Mr Morgan’s father Alun, who has since retired. It transports a wide variety of products for a host of different customers and has been buying Mercedes-Benz trucks since 1984.
The new Actros, a 6×2 premium specification 2544LS Long Distance model, has lined up alongside eight other 44-tonne tractor units, all but one of which wear three-pointed stars.
"We’ve been a loyal customer for Mercedes-Benz trucks because they’ve proved over the years to be so reliable and durable," continued Mr Morgan.
"They’re also well-liked by our drivers and command strong residual values when the time comes to stand them down, while the latest models are very fuel-efficient too – our trucks pull containers, curtainsiders and bulk tipping trailers, and the Actros tend to be good for 8.5mpg averages while our Mercedes-Benz Axors return in excess of 9mpg."
Another key factor is the operator’s relationship with the dealer. "Euro Commercials’ truck sales executive Steve Bastin provides a magnificent service," confirmed Mr Morgan. "He does whatever you ask of him and then leaves you the space to make your decision, without hassling you every five minutes.
"The workshop team at Euro’s facility on the Winch Wen Industrial Estate in Swansea are very professional too, and while we’ve never needed it on the Continent it’s nice to know that Mercedes-Benz Service 24h emergency assistance is just a phone call away."
