Logistics experts Menzies Distribution’s first dedicated charity week raised more than £30,000 for CHILDREN 1ST and Anthony Nolan – £10,000 more than the team’s target.
The week of sponsored activities and events included a 28-strong team, led by Managing Director David McIntosh, completing a 600-mile cycle ride from the company’s Edinburgh headquarters to its subsidiary business, Orbital Marketing Services Group, in Ashford, Kent, visiting colleagues in Irvine, Carlisle, Preston, Chesterfield, Rushden and Chelmsford along the way.
Employees at the company’s 39 depots across the UK also held a number of fundraising events during the week including cake bakes, dress down days, photo competitions, quizzes, games tournaments, and a raffle. More donations flooded in when Supply Chain Director Mark Cassie and IT Director David Speirs offered to wash colleagues’ cars.
David McIntosh said: "We’ve always given money to charity as a business, but this year we decided to pool our efforts to ensure we could raise as much as possible for two very deserving causes. It’s tremendous to hear we have beaten our fundraising target by at least £10,000.
"A lot of hard work went into organising and running the events, and I’ve been really impressed by the team spirit that has been displayed in all of our locations. Everyone I have spoken to has said they have got a real sense of pride and achievement from taking part.
"I’d like to thank everyone who supported us – individuals, suppliers and customers – and all colleagues who made the week such a success."
CHILDREN 1ST works to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Scotland, and Anthony Nolan matches blood stem cell donors to children and adults with blood cancer.
