Mercedes-Benz cements new deal with Quinn Manufacturing Group

One of Ireland’s largest manufacturers and best-known users of road transport is continuing to build for the future, by adding more new Mercedes-Benz trucks its fleet.

Quinn Manufacturing Group has just taken delivery of 10 new Axor 2543 high roofed tractor units from Mercedes-Benz Truck & Van (NI), Northern Ireland’s only approved dealer for commercial vehicles bearing the three-pointed star.

They replace the operator’s first Axor units, delivered by MB T&V (NI) back in 2003 – these are now being stood down after 10 years of reliable service, during which no fewer than four of them have each covered more than a million kilometres.

Based in Derrylin, Co. Fermanagh, the company manufactures and distributes concrete and building products, including thermal insulation, flexible and rigid food packaging, container glass, radiators and plastic sheet products, to customers throughout Ireland, Britain and Continental Europe.

The new arrivals are operating across several areas of the business: four are paired with curtainsided trailers and hauling palletised loads of bagged cement; another four work for the glass division, bringing raw materials such as glass sand into the company’s manufacturing facility; the remaining two also pull tipping trailers, and transport raw materials such as gypsum and coal into the cement plant.

Quinn Manufacturing Group is also soon to take delivery of a pair of 6×4 Axor 2633 tippers, which will be put to work in its Tarmac and quarries division.

"Mercedes-Benz has been able to make further in-roads into our fleet because its products are manufactured to the highest quality, and because we receive first-class back-up from Mercedes-Benz Truck & Van (NI)," says Quinn’s long-serving Transport Manager John McNally.

"In the 10 years that we’ve been running Mercedes-Benz trucks we’ve found them to be as near as possible to problem-free and on the odd occasion that a minor issue has cropped up, the dealer has always responded quickly and efficiently."

He continues: "Quinn Manufacturing Group has a strong environmental policy and is very aware of the need to minimise the impact of all its operations on the environment. Our Mercedes-Benz trucks have always been highly fuel efficient and we have every confidence that these latest vehicles will prove similarly frugal.

"The Axor is also an excellent ‘fit’ for our application," he adds. "The cab is well designed, with a tough, easy-to-clean finish. It also manages to combine plenty of interior space for the occasional nights away that our drivers spend, with compact exterior dimensions to make their lives easier when delivering to tight-access locations."
