Mercian Labels reaches 9,000 business customer milestone in its short run labelling division

The short run labelling division of the Mercian Labels Group has welcomed its 9,000th customer to the business and reaffirmed its commitment to sustain its position as the UK market leader in short run label printing.

The Staffordshire based business operates digital, hotfoil and flexo technology to meet the varied needs of its diverse customer base and has recently improved its service offering still further, to deliver a 97% On Time In Full (OTIF) delivery performance in 2011 – complete order turnaround within just 3 working days. Over 80 new businesses a month recognise the value in joining Mercian’s customer base.

Sales Director Hugo Gell said "Mercian Labels have built our business around short runs and industry setting lead times, a complex set of criteria in which we have developed a unique expertise. It is reassuring to see some of our competition announcing their exit from the short run marketplace, since it is tough to match the high quality and delivery speed standards that we have set. We remain fully committed to meeting the short run labelling requirements of both our trade and end user customers now and in in the long term with their huge diversity of products and applications.

We have specialised in this marketplace for over a decade now, and despite many businesses trying to match our specialised services, the simple truth is that they find it unsustainable to invest in the lean manufacturing procedures and intensive customer service support needed to consistently deliver a quality service in this demanding area of the label printing market.

Digital printing is a valuable and growing area of the UK labelling marketplace which we are proud to offer, but our diverse capabilities mean that we can also offer best value for our customers by using it in conjunction with other processes such as flexography, as they are faster and cheaper for medium to longer runs, with their more predictable label demands. We offer that all encompassing service because that is what our customers want.

For our 9,000 customers, service and quality are paramount; they are not concerned with how many square meters of material we can put through a press in a given shift. Our continued growth and success shows that fast turnaround, high quality short run labelling is a sustainable business model. Our decade of investing in this is proving its worth."
