Merit Solutions introduce SOM Despatch Packing Module eliminates errors in warehouse and logistics operations

A Kent Science Park company with 25 years of experience in managing process efficiencies has unveiled a new piece of software that is set to transform the despatch-packing process.

Merit Solutions' SOM Despatch-Packing Module eliminates human error in warehouses by tracking every item loaded onto vans and cross checking them against the orders that need to be filled. It can be adjusted to show a customer's order, or an individual van's load and, with its traffic light notification system, can tell a packer at a glance exactly what still needs to be packed before the van can leave - meaning no costly second trips to deliver items accidentally left behind in the depot.

It's also good news for customer satisfaction because it reduces the frustration and set back when a delivery arrives, but with only half of the order onboard.

This kind of improvement to business processes was recently highlighted by research from Warwick Business School as one of six key factors that can lead to above average growth in SME businesses.

A spokesperson from Merit said: "The Despatch-Packing Module is one of the most powerful tools we've ever produced. The packing process has always been plagued by human error, which over a period of time can cost companies a fortune - this system essentially eradicates those mistakes. It's the kind of process efficiency improvement that can have a really positive impact on a company's profit."

James Speck, Site Director of Kent Science Park, said: "This is the kind of innovation that can really make a difference to the economy. The potential savings a product like Merit's Despatch-Packing Module could bring about in any warehouse and logistics operation are self evident."
