Montracon’s curtain raiser on fuel savings

Early returns from in-service trials carried out with six axle artics featuring aerodynamically tailored Montracon curtainsiders indicate fuel savings of up to 8.3% compared to the standard units in our 15 strong trailer fleet,’ says Nigel Caseley, Director of Logistics, Vital Pet Products.

Delivered recently, the ten 13.6m long, postless, straightframe Montracon trailers have been matched ‘aerodynamically’ to the MAN tractors operated by the company. The trailer’s air dam and front canted roof promote attached rearward air flow. At the rear, the roof slopes downward between the cant rails to a line of vortex generators that channel the flow into the base drag area – immediately behind the rear trailer doors – reducing vehicle drag.

Additionally, side skirts promote attached air flow and direct it along the trailer sides, reducing turbulence and directing the flow into the base drag area.

With the Head Office in North Tawton, nr Exeter, Vital Pet Products operates ten tractors and fifteen trailers in addition to five 26 tonne and ninety five 18 tonne rigids. All help to distribute pet products from its six strategically located warehouses to wholesale customers throughout the country.
