Helping maintain the operating efficiency of Caterpillar's lifting equipment and light crane systems at its steel track shoes facility in Skinningrove on Teeside is the maintenance services division of Morris Material Handling – one of the UK's leading lifting services provider.
In addition to carrying out a rigorously planned maintenance programme across 90% of the Caterpillar lifting equipment located within the 5,000 square metre site, Morris Material Handling's Height Safety Solutions Division has also designed and commissioned a 'working at height' horizontal lifeline system that is installed on an in-house paint line.
Responsible for producing track shoes ranging from 12kg – 68kg, that when linked together form the 'Caterpillar track' found on hydraulic excavators and track type loaders and tractors, the Skinningrove facility forms part of Caterpillar's European Product Development and Operations Division.
Servicing the Caterpillar contract from one of Morris Material Handling's nationwide network of service centres located in nearby Stockton-on-Tees, the company undertakes a monthly inspection of all loose lifting equipment, whereby individual items are colour coded for the relevant inspection period, thus making parts immediately identifiable to personnel that they are safe to use. Additionally, Morris carries out a six monthly inspection of on-site jibs, and ensures that Caterpillar meets its commitments under LOLER98 regulations. The Morris team located at Stockton also remain on hand to provide 24/7 cover should breakdowns occur making on-site repairs necessary.
Commenting on behalf of Morris Material Handling, UK Sales Manager, Graham Dames said: "Given that the Caterpillar brand is one of the most widely recognised on a global scale, we are delighted to be helping them maintain the efficiency of their operation here in the North East. Indeed our Stockton service centre continues to work successfully with a number of leading companies located within what has historically always been an important part of the country for Morris."
