New board appointments and responsibilities at BITA

The retirement of a number senior figures within BITA and the industry, means a raft of new appointments and a re-organisation of responsibilities within the organisation.

Longstanding BITA member and former two-time President David Rowell is retiring after a remarkable total of over 44 years in the industry – and all of them working for the same company – Hyster-Yale.

Hyster-Yale colleague Simon Munn takes over responsibilities from David for liaison with the British Materials Handling Federation and the Fédération Européenne de la Manutention (FEM).

Victoria Hutson and Mike Barton are new appointments to the BITA Board. An engineer with over 18 years’ experience, Victoria has been with JCB for six years. Her new role will see her responsible as BITA Technical Director, reporting, developing and informing members of updates within the UK, EU and Globally for Industrial trucks and the technical requirements for market access.

Mike has been involved with BITA for many years as a member of the Component and Services Group (CSG). He has 51 years’ experience in the forklift industry and takes on the role of IMHX chairman and liaison on behalf of BITA, working with show co-owners Informa. He takes on this responsibility from Barry Langsford who is retiring at the end March.

Other changes announced are:

· Simon Barkworth – appointed 1st Vice-President

· David Goss – appointed BITA Technical Manager replacing Bob Hine who is retiring. David also becomes a Trustee of the Forklift Apprentice Training Fund

· Mike Mathias – a retiring member of the BITA Board, is replaced by David Callis on the CFTS Board

Commenting on the appointments and re-organisation James Clark, Secretary-General of BITA, comments: “It is great to see that as stalwart board members and servants of BITA retire, we have a new generation of highly-talented and able people taking up roles and responsibilities for the future.

“Our retiring members have given many years of selfless service and dedication to their companies, to BITA, and to their fellow members – and we wish them a happy and well deserved retirement. I would like to go on to welcome those coming onto the Board and taking on new responsibilities – I know that BITA and its members are in safe hands, and that they will work together to maintain BITA’s influence and leadership.”
