New manager for FTA warehouse and mechanical handling services

The Freight Transport Association has named Peter Gibbs as the new Business Operations Manager for its Mechanical Handling Equipment and Warehousing Service. Gibbs (40) joined FTA in 2001 after working in commercial vehicle engineering for Lufthansa at Gatwick Airport and with Scania dealer Scantruck Lewes.

Gibbs will head up a team of five engineers exclusively supplying FTA's range of services for warehouses and mechanical handling equipment, including comprehensive racking inspections and reports, lift equipment inspections and fork truck inspections.

Peter Gibbs says, 'We are focussing FTA's services in this area and feel that there is enormous potential for growth. Health and safety requirements are constantly becoming tighter, and enforcement becoming more demanding. FTA inspections, for both premises and equipment, provide site operators with peace of mind and confidence that they are safe and sound and legally compliant.

'I am very happy to be am able to draw on FTA's 40 plus years of experience with its Vehicle Inspection Service, and the sort of help we can offer in the warehousing and MHE sector is a natural development of our work with the industry in supporting and advising on workshops, maintenance regimes and overall vehicle management.'

Gibbs is based in Sussex and operates out of FTA's Tunbridge Wells head office, reporting to Richard White, General Manager, Sales. However, his responsibility is national.
