New materials for old legend from 21st century contractors

Godiva to Rest in State of the Art Chamber After Epic Olympic Journey.

A very 21st Century Chamber is being constructed where an ancient legend - Lady Godiva - will be able to rest after she makes an epic journey to the 2012 London Olympics in the form of a huge puppet-like figure. Award-winning Warwickshire contractors Alumet are delighted to be adding their expertise to this unusual project.

"Godiva is close to the hearts of Coventry people. We are delighted to be involved in the creation of a state-of -the- art resting place where the lovely Lady can enjoy her well-earned repose after her Olympic feat," said Alumet Marketing Director, Dean Walton.

"Her lodging house will be quite something - plans are not yet finalized and the whole thing is still under wraps as it were, but we will be assisting with a variety of construction materials."

The Lady Godiva legend dates back to the pagan pre-Christian era, but she is much-loved and commemorated in and around Coventry. Her representation graces many public places, including City Hall and the Cathedral Lane Shopping Centre. Every May-Eve a look-alike Godiva processes through the town centre on a white horse to the delight of the crowds, and Mr Walton promises that this historic heroine has now risen to the challenge of 2012.

Hints are that the Olympic Godiva will tower over the city's streets wearing Zandra Rhodes underwear! She will have a retinue of performers to assist her re-awakening and a team of 50 cyclists to accompany her on her journey from Coventry to London. This leviathan puppet will utilize regional crafts and industries both ancient and contemporary, including Stoke-on-Trent potteries, Black Country chain makers and Leamington Spa computer games.

"Alumet are proud to be part of this skilled region and this exciting construction project," concluded Mr Walton. He added that the Godiva Awakes project will be showcased at Alumet's Open Day on July 15th, to which all are invited.
