Scottish waste management and recycling services specialist Oran Waste UK is perfectly placed to exploit fresh business opportunities after undergoing a change of ownership and investing in a new fleet of Mercedes-Benz trucks.
With a head office in Stirling, and 11 other depots strategically located nationwide, Oran Waste UK offers customers a complete range of environmental solutions delivered by three operating divisions:
Oran Recycling, which focuses on the recovery and recycling of dry waste materials; Oran Processing, which concentrates on the treatment and disposal of liquid waste, and Oran Organics, which specialises in the recycling of organic materials.
The company, which boasts a turnover well in excess of £30 million, was recently acquired by the Response Group, one of Ireland's leading water service contractors.
Oran Waste UK Managing Director Doug Aitchison declares: “There are many synergies between the Response Group and Oran Waste UK, including core environmental services, a commitment to continual improvement and the desire to build long-term relationships with employees, customers, suppliers and the communities in which both operate, We are very excited about the new opportunities that this agreement now presents.”
Spearheading Oran Waste UK's drive for continued growth under its new owner will be a state-of-the-art fleet of Mercedes-Benz trucks, all of which are replacing Swedish-built vehicles.
Bellshill dealer Western Commercial has already delivered a pair of double-drive 26-tonne Mercedes Econic 2629 refuse trucks with Heil compactor bodies, and two 18-tonne Axor 1824s with Hyva skip loader bodies.
Still to come, though, are 16 Actros 2544 Long Distance tractor units, which will work at 44-tonne gross weights and pull either vacuum tankers or bulk tipping trailers, and six 32-tonne Actros 3241s with Hyva hook-lift bodies, as well as another two 18-tonne Axor skip-loaders.
Oran Waste UK operates a fleet of more than 130 trucks, with a Swedish brand claiming the lion's share.
Peter Deighan, joined Oran as Group Transport Manager in 2007 having worked with Mercedes trucks in his previous role.
He says: “Mercedes-Benz offers a comprehensive product range and breadth of specification to meet all of our requirements, while I know from personal experience, that its vehicles are highly reliable and supported by an excellent dealer network.
“The fact that it is a premium marque also underpins our own reputation for quality in customers' eyes. And no less importantly, this deal was very competitively priced.”
Oran's drivers have given the first of their new Mercedes a resounding 'thumbs up'. “They like the Axor's excellent all-round visibility,” continues Mr Deighan, “while the Econic scores for its easily-accessed low-entry cab and 6×4 driveline, which offers excellent traction when tipping at landfill sites.”
He adds: “These vehicles are being inspected and, where possible, serviced, at our own locations, under Mercedes-Benz repair and maintenance contracts; it's a system that appears to be working very well.
“The team at Western Commercial are highly professional and the fact that we have a dedicated sales contact in Key Account Manager Angus McIntosh, who ensures that all our needs are catered for, is also a big help.”
