The Wring Group's new High Reach Doosan DX700LC crawler excavator has completed its first work for the company, demolishing buildings on the campus of the former Swindon College in Swindon in the UK.
Wring Group is demolishing buildings at the Regent Circus site as part of a £50 million project to construct a new 52,000 sq ft superstore, eight restaurants and bars, a 30,000 sq ft six-screen cinema complex and a 450-space car park.
Working on behalf of the developer, Wring Group has taken down the nine storey high-rise building at the centre of the former campus in stages using the new super high reach demolition DX700LC excavator, which is now the largest of the four high reach excavators in the Wring fleet. This type of demolition method was chosen ahead of other techniques such as the use of explosives because the site is in the middle of a residential area.
The new DX700LC excavator can be converted into the new super high reach machine after work by Kocurek of Ipswich using a refurbished 37 m long arm, which can be interchanged with a standard arm for non high reach applications.
Bristol-based Wring Group, one of the leading demolition companies in the UK, purchased the new DX700LC excavator from local Authorised Doosan dealer, Kellands (Plant Sales) Ltd of Bridgwater in Somerset.
According to Dean Wring, Director of the Wring Group, one of the main reasons for purchasing the DX700LC unit was the excellent service the company has received from Kellands and the high performance of the new Doosan DX380LC and DX225LC excavators they have recently purchased.
Dean Wring said: "Our continued investment in specialist equipment means we own one of the UK's biggest, most advanced demolition fleets with a complement of over 55 excavators and standard and high reach demolition rigs from 0.75 - 90 tonne and up to 37 m reach, enabling us to undertake all manner of demolition and dismantling contracts."

Complementing the state-of-the-art design, the DX700LC excavator is the largest model in the Doosan range and provides optimum value for the end-user thanks to outstanding productivity, superior comfort for the operator, enhanced reliability, durability and maximum uptime. The long carriage (LC) design, in combination with the undercarriage expanded to its maximum working width of 4000 mm, offers optimum stability and safety in all kinds of digging, lifting, loading and demolition applications.
Together with the engine, the hydraulic system of the DX700LC is designed to provide exceptional performance with economic fuel consumption. A new mode control system provides optimum power and efficiency for all operating conditions:
Power Mode: heavy duty digging and loading
Standard Mode: heavy duty dumping, general, and operation of a breaker flow distribution control (boom, swing, priority, etc.)
Economy Mode: medium duty digging, loading and dumping
Lifting Mode: lifting of pipes or beams
Operator comfort
Like all Doosan excavators, much attention has been given to operator comfort and safety. The DX700LC has a very spacious operator cab, equipped with ergonomic controls and instrumentation. Special attention has been given to keep noise to a minimum by improved sealing of the engine compartment and extensive use of sound-dampening materials. The noise level at the operator ear is 76 dB(A) while the noise level for bystanders is a low 107.7 LwA.
All components and assemblies are designed, built and tested to ensure durability. Multi-stage filters and features such as track guards, the auto grease system and greased and sealed track links are designed to provide superior reliability and a long service life.
Engine service intervals are 500 hours and the DX700LC also shares the extended lubrication intervals of the whole Doosan excavator range. Lubrication is simplified thanks to a centralized front grease point, and the dipper arm grease inlets are grouped for easy access. The water trap and the engine oil filter are both located in the hydraulic pump bay, which is easy to reach from the ground level.
