Agricultural firm Wynnstay adds more Renault Trucks to fleet

The new fleet have joined Wynnstay’s agricultural services bulk haulage operation

Wynnstay, a supplier of agricultural products, has added eight Renault Trucks C440 Off Road, two tridems and six 8x4s, to its 96-strong HGV fleet, with an additional tridem on order based on the performance of these first vehicles.

Supplied by Matthew Keys at Diamond Trucks Warrington, the C440s are equipped with Muldoon bulk blowing tipping bodies and have joined Wynnstay’s agricultural services bulk haulage operation delivering animal feed to farms.

Commenting on the decision to add more Renault Trucks to the Wynnstay fleet, Ged Young, Group Distribution Director, said: “I was seeking an alternative marque for our replacement vehicles.

"The decision to add Renault Trucks to our fleet was driven by several factors, including total cost of ownership, durability, availability, lead time, and their strong reputation.”

Manoeuvrability was also a key consideration for Wynnstay, as the trucks spend on average 30 – 40% of their life on farms, navigating challenging terrain and tight access areas.

Here the C440 tridems, with factory-fitted extra axle adaption, offer enhanced manoeuvrability as well as good traction, as their three-axle bogies offer a shorter wheelbase and improved turning circle compared to a conventional 8x4 for easier access to sites.

To avoid low level damage from driving down rutted farm tracks, the C440s are equipped with Renault Trucks’ high construction bumper for comfortable clearance.

The cab is also fitted with four-point cab air suspension with ride-height control system for stability and comfort on rough ground.

Power for the C440s comes from Renault Trucks’ efficient 13 litre engine which produces 440 hp and 2200 Nm of torque, paired with the Optidriver AT 2612 gearbox with automatic clutch, which optimises gear selection for the best performance and enhanced driver comfort.

As the trucks are out for up to four nights a week, all eight C440s are equipped with sleeper cabs and a host of driver-focused optional extras for home from home comforts, including luxury driver’s seat, ultimate leather steering wheel, leather and fabric upholstery, Sérénité lower bunk with memory foam mattress topper and performance roof console with four storage compartments.

“Renault Trucks has made the best efforts to look after the driver in terms of the cab, and the drivers love them. So far the total cost of ownership is good, too.”

Wynnstay purchased the Renault Trucks Cs outright, and aims to run them for between eight and ten years.

The company’s in-house workshops look after all the maintenance from end-to-end, truck and body, but rely on the parts support and back up of local Renault Trucks dealer.

Perry’s of Gobowen, as Ged noted: “The trucks have a tough life, so aftersales commitment and keeping the wheels turning are a major factor for us. The support of Perry’s of Gobowen is excellent – for us, the back up is as critical as the truck.”
