Four sites trial new AI technology to improve plant efficiency

EfW operator enfinium is trialling the AI technology to improve plant efficiency at its sites

Pattern recognition AI technology is being trialled at four operational Energy from Waste (EfW) sites in the UK, with an aim to improve plant efficiency and reliability.

EfW operator enfinium has partnered with Cognitive Business to trial the technology to improve plant efficiency at its sites, Ferrybridge 1, Ferrybridge 2, Kemsley and Parc Adfer.

Cognitive Business, which is a leader in analytics and AI for critical energy infrastructure, will deliver advanced pattern recognition (APR) technology services.

Advanced analytics of the dataset will enable enfinium to detect hidden potential operational and maintenance issues earlier and with a higher degree of accuracy.

It will also be able to predict and prevent equipment failures, optimise maintenance schedules, and improve overall plant availability and reliability.

Deployed in other power generation sectors - including thermal generation, gas, and wind - this is the first implementation of APR technology at enfiniumā€™s EfW operations.

Chris Bebbington, Group Head of Asset Management at enfinium, said: "Our aim is to pioneer trailblazing technology in the EfW sector, adopting forward-thinking and innovative solutions.

"Cognitive Business are industry-leading for advanced analytics and AI, and this partnership aligns with our vision to use AI and big data analytics to manage our facilities more effectively."
