The latest themed area of LEGOLAND Windsor is dominated by one of the tallest LEGOĀ® models in Britain ā€“ a six metre high statue of a Pharaoh, made from 200,000 LEGO bricks. In order to get the Pharaoh on its stand before the attraction opened, LEGOLAND staff used their new Linde forklift truck to move the Egyptian figure into position.
The Pharaoh now stands tall in front of the brand new ride, Laser Raiders, where visitors can make their way through an ancient tomb in search of hidden treasure, using laser guns to battle through a labyrinth, battling evil mummies and dodging traps and skeletons.
Ian McCormack, LEGOLAND's Warehouse & Logistics Manager, made the decision to select the R14-G Reach Truck after consultation with an experienced Linde salesperson. Linde is the UK market leader in materials handling equipment.
"I was particularly impressed by Linde's contribution to the decision-making process," he says. "We thought we needed a new dedicated warehouse reach truck but they came in, assessed our needs and suggested this R14-G internal / external Reach Truck forklift. This can be used both inside and outside of the warehouse as well as for unloading commercial vehicles located in the yard apron area when the existing counterbalance forklift truck is busy or unavailable. This has given us much more flexibility in our operation around the site."
The 'G' range is the latest addition to the highly successful ACtive range, with residual capacities of 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 tonnes, and is fitted with a unique drive unit suspension system and large rubber tyres enabling it to operate effectively outside on uneven surfaces - loading and unloading road vehicles for example; as well as storing and retrieving loads in narrow aisle warehouses.
Richard Brinsden, Linde Material Handling South-East Sales Executive, says a demonstration at the LEGOLAND site helped seal the deal as the customer could see exactly how the truck had both the manoeuvrability for use between the racking in the warehouse and the robustness for outside work. "Also, they liked the idea of electric powered trucks because they are quieter and friendlier to the environment."
