Wincanton, a leading provider of innovative supply chain solutions in the UK, has secured a five year contract with General Dynamics UK.
Wincanton’s dedicated Bicester facility has delivered logistics services for General Dynamics UK since 2006, providing the inventory management, storage and dispatch of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) secure communications equipment ‘Bowman’, used by UK military units at home and abroad.
The new contract combines both Bowman and TCIS (tactical communication infrastructure system) equipment and follows a successful tender by General Dynamics UK - working closely with Wincanton - to become the MoD’s logistics service support provider.
Wincanton will pick up to 12,000 pieces of equipment each month, providing 24/7 cover and meeting the MoD’s one-hour pick and dispatch target for priority items.
Chris Kingshott, Wincanton’s managing director for manufacturing, said: “This new contract is testament to the depth of our experience and expertise in defence sector logistics. We work closely with General Dynamics UK and are a trusted partner, consistently providing savings through lean operations and continuous business process improvements.
He added: “We are proud of our track record in supporting General Dynamics UK to deliver Bowman equipment to operational and non-operational units around the world.”
Ian Menzies, Senior Capability Director at General Dynamics UK said: “The strength of our partnership with Wincanton and the success of our previous contracts with the MoD was an essential component in our bid to become the MoD’s logistics service support provider. Continuous improvement and close communication is vital when delivering the complex and efficient services that the MoD requires.”
