Hertel has appointed Chris Abbey as the Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) for the UK and Ireland.
Based at Hertel's regional office in Preston Brook, Chris, who lives in the Wirral, joins the multi-discipline construction and maintenance company from Weir Power & Industrial Plc.
In his new role with Hertel, Chris will look to devising an integrated HSEQ strategy that analyses risk trends, identifies top business risks, empowers the workforce and mitigates the occurrence of potential lost-time incidents.
Included in his key responsibilities are developing Hertel best practice, ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety & environmental legislation and delivering professional guidance across all working areas, from the board of directors to employees on client sites.
Chris has experience across a range of construction, engineering and power service industries and has worked with clients including Shell UK, EON, RWE npower, EDF and British Gas.
Having been involved in health and safety for more than 15 years, Chris is a registered Chartered safety practitioner. Chris is also an advocate of continuous professional development and sees this as a crucial element to delivering world class HSEQ performance to back up experience with up-to-date knowledge.
In addition to his position at Hertel, Chris sits on the Client Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) committee, which advises on how the safety passport is employed by training providers and clients in the engineering and construction industry.
