JLT Mobile Computers, a developer of rugged computing solutions for the toughest environments, has launched the groundbreaking mobile broadband and GPS equipped JLT 1214S in- vehicle computer. The 1214S will provide truck drivers with satellite navigation and online order management using its wireless broadband connection.

JLT Mobile Computers has responded to the growing demand from customers for a rugged computer that supports mobile broadband and GPS to provide a mobile office solution for the truck cab. The new computer enables drivers to receive orders and communicate with customers and their transport offices using voice, video, instant messaging, SMS and email. As a fully mobile computer, the 1214S will also run any type of application software required for the end user application.

"The JLT 1214S is the perfect all-in-one in-vehicle solution with mobile broadband and GPS for transport and logistics applications. Truck drivers will use the computer whenever they are on the road and when they do not have access to other wireless networks," said Christian Funk, Product and Marketing Manager for JLT Mobile Computers.

The new computer features an integrated Sierra Wireless 3G module for mobile broadband communications and an accurate GPS system for satellite navigation. It is also equipped with integrated speakers for spoken driver directions if used with appropriate GPS software.

The JLT 1214S is built and tested to IP65 for ruggedness, with the cable connections having enhanced sealing to make them water and vibration-proof. The computer operates in a range of extreme temperatures, ranging from -30 degrees Celsius to +55 degrees Celsius. It is also resistant to vibrations that are in excess of recommended limits for trucks and warehouse trucks.

Equipped with an Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor, the computer offers high performance and supports various types of operating systems including Windows 7, Windows XP and Linux.

"The standard JLT 1214 is one of our most popular in-vehicle computers for warehouse and logistics applications. Because of its success, our customers have asked for new features that will broaden the use of our 1214 Series mobile computers for transport applications. This advanced model sets a new standard for vehicle-mounted computers for the transport industry," said Christian Funk.
