A fast-growing logistics group has chosen Durite to help it comply with new safety standards.

The BJS Family of companies runs a fleet of more than 100 HGVs in a range of combinations.

These include curtainsiders, brick cranes, and tippers, providing a range of commercial and domestic logistics services.

The group has invested in Durite camera systems as well as new Durite technology designed to comply with the Progressive Safe System (PSS) regulations in London, with particular emphasis on HGVs (heavy goods vehicles)

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Progressive Safe System is an enhanced version of the current DVS legislation from Transport for London, in place since 2020.

From 28th October 2024, all HGVs over 12t operating in Greater London must be PSS Compliant.

The new standard aims to build on the existing direct vision capabilities by providing truck drivers with indirect vision, meaning the elimination of blind spots.

“There had been a lot of confusion with the new DVS compliance scheme,” says Operations Director, Amarat Gill, “however, the Durite team have provided a seamless solution including all the necessary advice and equipment tailored to support our operations.”

Durite supplied a comprehensive system of five cameras per truck, brake light cameras, DVR recorders, and live streaming functionality.

This integrates with Durite’s Progressive Safe System (PSS) which can always detect moving objects in the nearside blind spot, and directly in front of the truck cab for when the vehicle moves off.

Durite PSS is a comprehensive package that uses AI camera technology and comes with a two-year warranty. It also includes an AHD 7” monitor, left turn speaker and blind spot warning sign.

The group has fitted the systems to their BJS Haulage vehicles, along with vehicles in its Construct IT division, their specialist brick and aggregate haulier for the construction sector.

It has also installed Durite’s solutions on vehicles within its BJS Home Delivery division, which specialises in two-person deliveries of high-value goods such as appliances and furniture.

“BJS prides itself on using the best technology to enhance our efficiency and the customer experience,” adds Amarat.

“We already deploy sophisticated route planning and tracking platforms along with electronic proof of delivery.

“Vehicle safety is also paramount, particularly in our Construct IT division which can see our HGVs operating on busy construction sites.

"Our drivers are delighted with the equipment and report better visibility, safety and all-round secure driving – especially in urban and congested areas.

"The Durite system has easily integrated with our telematics system via API, meaning complete visibility.”

Durite’s vehicle camera systems are proven to enhance fleet safety and compliance control.

Reduced risk of collisions can also mean lower insurance and repair costs, plus improved vehicle uptime.

Durite has been supplying vehicle cameras for more than 20 years and has sold more than 100,000 systems to fleets.

The company also provides a comprehensive range of vehicle safety products, making it a one-stop shop for fleet operators.

In total it offers more than 5,000 quality parts to customers.
