The £2m construction project was completed by leading warehouse and distribution construction company, Chalcroft who worked with project management consultants, SBH, to increase L'Oréal's warehouse and distribution centre by an additional 5,000m2. Chalcroft's work will help the cosmetics company further increase its logistics capabilities.
Part of a continuing programme of sustainable development within its consumer products division, the construction work follows significant investment in Greater Manchester by L'Oréal, over a period of more than 30 years, allowing the company to retain access to a pool of skilled logistics staff in a location with excellent road links and transport facilities.
Commenting on the project, Dean Cook, Chalcroft Contracts Manager, said: "The expansion will play an important role in L'Oréal's growth programme and it is very rewarding to see the project completed successfully.
"Chalcroft have taken care to ensure that the development meets L'Oréal's sustainable development objectives, which are important at all levels within the supply chain. The work undertaken includes a number of sustainable features such as LED lighting which will reduce energy consumption by up to 45% as well as cutting operating costs."
As part of L'Oréal's environmental commitment, the Company has set three ten year targets (2005 - 2015) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption per finished product and waste per finished product by 50% at its factories and distribution centres.
Stephan Coutelen Country Supply Chain Director at L'Oréal said: "L'Oréal UK is firmly committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Since 2009, all of our UK distribution centres have run off renewable electricity resulting in a reduction of carbon emissions associated with these sites by 80%. In addition recent efficiency projects have delivered improved performance in waste and water consumption, and our Trafford Park and Bury Distribution Centres are certified to the international standard for Environmental Management, ISO 14001.
"The expansion at Trafford Park reflects the importance of this warehouse and distribution centre to the business. L'Oréal has set an ambitious sustainable growth target to win one billion new consumers worldwide by 2020. The UK will play an integral role in achieving this target and Chalcroft has proved itself the ideal construction partner as L'Oréal continues to grow its consumer products division."
