A new health and safety poster has been launched today that all construction businesses must display by law... but they've got five YEARS to comply.
Leading training company Pivotal Performance says the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is introducing the poster today (Monday 6th April).
It must be displayed in every business where there are employees, and replaces the current safety poster, which was updated in 1999.
Jane Gillham from Pivotal Performance said there's no need to rush out to get one.
She said: "While the new poster has launched today, it will still be legal to display the old one until the 5th April 2014.
"This new poster is much easier to read. It has been simplified with clearer instructions for both employers and employees.
"The HSE has also produced pocket cards for the first time listing some of the basics of health and safety. You can now give one of these to every employee instead of having a poster displayed."
The idea behind the poster and cards is to let employees know who is responsible for health and safety within the building.
The new poster is pretty hi-tec. It contains a sequentially numbered hologram to identify genuine versions, and is printed on fully biodegradable material.
This means that when it is replaced – maybe in a decade from now – it will be friendly to the environment when disposed of.
Jane added: "Good health and safety is not difficult, but does mean following simple common sense rules. The poster is all about making sure people have access to the information they need."
