RTITB has launched new 'instructors guides' for training earth moving machinery operators to improve safety standards.

The training materials bring the benefits of RTITB training to a choice of six types of machine and are designed to help training providers to keep costs down.

Earth moving machinery is used in a wide range of industries and applications, such as agriculture, oil and gas, waste management, rail and road maintenance, and facilities management.

With the new guides, companies that use high-quality RTITB materials for road transport or materials handling equipment courses can now apply the same high standards across their full range of training requirements.

The guides can be used to train operators to use Wheeled Loading Shovels, 180° excavators (up to, and over 5 tonnes), 360° excavators (wheeled or tracked, up to, and over 10 tonnes), and Skid Steer Loaders (also called ‘Bobcats’).

“The introduction of the new earth moving equipment training means employers can use a single RTITB Accredited training provider for all their course needs, making it quicker and simpler to arrange multiple types of operator training,” says Laura Nelson, Managing Director, RTITB.

“Or if they are accredited to deliver their own in-house training, and have suitably trained Instructors, they now have the flexibility to run these courses themselves rather than outsourcing.”

“For our community of training providers, they no longer need to have additional external accreditations for these machine types, as all the new courses are covered within their RTITB Accreditation,” Laura adds. “This helps them to keep costs down for their customers.”

All of the guides come on USB, making the materials easy for Instructors to transport and use, while reducing paper waste.

Each includes a course program, test marking sheets for pre-use inspection and practical tests, and theory test question papers.

Each is designed to be used alongside a new Earth Moving Machinery training PowerPoint, available separately, to further keep costs under control.

“Training providers get great value, as they only need to purchase the one PowerPoint to support operator training across several different types of machinery,” explains Laura.

“They can also use the RTITB TrainingFriend App for course administration and assessment which further helps save time and cut costs, while also being paper-free.”

Operators successfully completing the training will also be issued with a digital eCard, instead of a plastic operator ID.

Alongside the environmental benefits, this is also more cost-effective, starting from just £2.95 per eCard.
