Norbert Dentressangle builds new automated warehouse to support sportswear contract extension

Norbert Dentressangle has secured a major contract extension with sporting goods company Amer Sports. Under the 10-year agreement, Norbert Dentressangle will be responsible for the European logistics operation of all Amer’s clothing, footwear and cycling ranges.

A global leader in the sporting goods industry, Amer Sports group is headquartered in Finland and is home to a number of internationally famous brands, including Mavic (cycling), Wilson (racquet and ball sports), Suunto (sports watches and instruments), Salomon, Arc’teryx and Atomic (winter sports).

In support of the operation, Norbert Dentressangle is building a new, 52,000 m² automated warehouse at Saint Vulbas in the Lyon area, which is expected to be complete in 2015. This innovative solution will improve customer service by enhancing preparation capacity and reducing order processing time, at the same time as optimising the use of storage space.

The new contract forms part of a reconfiguration of Amer Sports’ supply chain that aims to improve customer service levels, grow sales and rationalise logistics costs. Norbert Dentressangle will provide goods receipt, warehousing, order picking and preparation, delayed product customisation and despatch services to Amer Sports customers, including major distribution companies, retail chains and independent stores.

Previously, the logistics relationship between Norbert Dentressangle and Amer Sports had only covered the Mavic brand.

Stéphane Point, CEO of Norbert Dentressangle Logistics France, comments: "We are very proud to have been selected by Amer Sports to support the continued growth of its iconic brands. This contract is an illustration of our ability, not only to design innovative solutions but to invest in making them a reality."

Stefan Engelbrecht, Vice President, Distribution and Transportation at Amer Sports Corporation said: "We were won over by Norbert Dentressangle’s proposal to set up an automated logistics solution for warehousing and order preparation. This is a technological challenge that will enable us to speed up our logistics performance. We are delighted by this new partnership."
