Norbert Dentressangle has invested in a new national distribution hub at Brownhills, near Walsall, for its expanding Specialist Services operation, which provides specialist-handling distribution for businesses supplying high value, delicate or large commercial items.
The new warehouse features 20,000 sq ft (1,860 sq m) of fully racked high bay storage space and a 23,000 sq ft (2,140 sq m) cross-dock facility with a total of 22 loading bays. There is also an office area of nearly 10,000 sq ft (930 sq m) for the centralised customer service team and Norbert Dentressangle has invested in a new state-of-the-art IT system.
A team of over 50 drivers, warehouse operatives and administration staff are based at the redeveloped International Freight Terminal, which is on the Maybrook Industrial Estate in Brownhills.
The site was chosen due to its excellent transport links via the M6, M6 toll, M42 and A5, and as well as meeting current storage and distribution needs it has the potential for significant future expansion.
Dave Finnie, Director of Specialist Services and Red Inside at Norbert Dentressangle Transport and Distribution UK, commented on the investment: “Brownhills will become the centre of excellence for Specialist Services and be a showpiece site where existing and future clients will be able to view our operational capability at first hand.
“Norbert Dentressangle has made a significant investment in refurbishing the site to ensure it meets our immediate and future needs.”
Over the next six to 12 months the site is expected to develop further as the Specialist Services arm continues to win additional business and create new job opportunities for warehouse operators and HGV drivers.
The latest development follows on from the company’s investment in a new Specialist Services centre in Taunton, Somerset, last July and the opening of a new 295,000 sq ft (27,405 sq m) national pallet network hub at Crick, Northamptonshire, for Norbert Dentressangle Transport and Distribution UK in January this year.
