One Small Step for Man: the SEMA 2013 one day safety conference held 7th November

SEMA, the Storage Equipment Manufacturers’ Association is to hold its Annual Safety Conference on Thursday 7th November at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull.

2013’s theme on safety in the storage industry is One Small Step for Man. Two HSE inspectors cover critical aspects of safety in the workplace. Dr Sarah Haynes reviews Noise and Hand Arm Vibration in terms of how to control risk and what measures should be adopted. In Asbestos: Is that Still Around? Michael Bone discusses what to do if this hazardous material is encountered, both practically and in terms of legislation.

The full day event sponsored by Troax and SESS will feature up to date guidance by SEMA’s Richard Taylor and Stewart Howard on establishing and maintaining a safe storage system including racking inspections and action planning. Alan Worrell of SEMA’s technical committee offers the latest developments on load notices and refers to best industry practice plus how to conform to legislation.
Other themes by independent speakers include Attachments to FLTs (Dean Mansell of Briggs Equipment), Hearing Protection as Safety Wear (hearing technical specialist, Matthew Green of Arco) and Building a Robust Safety Culture (Harry Gallagher, head of behavioural safety at Macnaughton McGregor).
The event starts at 9.30am, includes a buffet lunch and exhibition and is excellent value for money at £125 + VAT.

Event chairman and SEMA President Jaap Vos said: ‘SEMA’s an organisation committed to promoting and extending the safe design, installation and use of storage equipment manufactured and supplied by our members. We work in partnership with regulatory authorities such as the HSE and CSCS. Our influence and contributions form part of legislation in defining new British Standards. Themes for our 2013 conference are must for those specifying and utilising storage systems to meet today’s legislation.’
