New packaging developments enabling simple storage, faster logistics, and product traceability will be on show when easyFairs® Packtech returns to Birmingham's NEC in February.
The two-day show – February 11 & 12 – will feature around 100 exhibitors, many of which will showcase advances in transit packaging, wrapping and binding, protective packaging, and environmental initiatives.
Peter Heath, easyFairs® UK Managing Director, said: “In tough times, logistics managers are being forced to investigate in-house cost savings to improve their bottom line – be that to stack products more efficiently, distribute them quicker, or wrap them more cheaply. easyFairs® PACKTECH brings together some of the UK's and Europe's most innovative solutions providers, from small, niche firms and multi-nationals alike.”
One intriguing exhibitor is Berlin-based Arpack – a new name to the UK market – which brings its high-density polystyrene pallets to the event.
Weighing less than 4kg, and so affording significant fuel and carbon savings during transport, the pallets can carry up to a tonne on the move and more than three tonnes when static. Another added benefit for exporters is that the poly-pallets don't require any treatment against pests and insects, unlike wooden versions, and means less customs red tape.
Other innovative, eco-sensitive transit packaging developments will also be on show. These include Easypack, who have developed machinery for converting surplus cardboard and waste into void-fill packing material; recyclable pallets made from recycled board by the Green Pallet Company; and Dufaylite's lightweight, protective and recyclable transit packaging.
Elsewhere, Cyklop promotes its new Twinpack system that combines both stretch wrapping and strapping; Go Plastic Pallets introduces its new 1200mm x 1000mm offering, with full perimeter base and perforated top deck; and Laser Pack hopes its pallet protection product Stak Stop will appeal to company bosses whose products have been damaged by 'top stacking' forklift drivers.
The event is co-located alongside easyFairs® CONTRACT PACK, an event for companies looking to outsource their packaging needs.
In association with the British Contract Manufacturers & Packers Association (BCMPA), the show promotes the full spectrum of services, including design, blister/clam packing, shrink-wrapping, labelling, point-of-sale displays, pick and pack, warehousing and distribution.
BCMPA Chief Executive Rodney Steel has confirmed that at least 30 firms, those already working successfully with brand owners in the pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, chemicals, toiletries, cosmetics and general packaging industries, will participate.
