Pan-European supply chain specialist P&O Ferrymasters is poised for growth in Russia and the CIS after reaching a cooperation agreement with Moscow-based Sovtransavto, a major holding group for more than 20 transport and logistics companies involved in international and domestic trades.


The organisations are setting up a communications interface between their various offices to coordinate opportunities for working together in the European transport market. They are also developing plans for joint participation on specific projects.


The steps were agreed at a meeting initiated by P&O Ferrymasters as part of its east European expansion strategy. The company's delegation was headed by Johann Winkler, general manager Eastern Europe, with deputy director general Andrey Brashkin leading the Sovtransavto team.


Participants outlined their company structures and growth plans before discussing potential areas of cooperation on road and multimodal services. These included trade lanes from western Europe to Russia and various logistics initiatives.


The P&O Ferrymasters network of 27 offices in 13 countries includes branches in Moscow and Kiev, which are targeting both the FMCG and industrial sectors to add to existing multinational and domestic customers.

Sovtransavto was established more than 40 years ago and consolidates the resources of group companies to provide end-to-end supply chain solutions. The group now consist of ten logistics companies, 12 haulage operators - including a specialist container haulier - and four cargo terminals.
