Panther Warehousing directors finalists in prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards

The directors of premium white glove delivery company Panther Warehousing have been selected as finalists for a prestigious regional award recognising the best of the Midlands’ entrepreneurial talent.

Wilson Barrett and Colin McCarthy are up against leaders from technology and retail sectors as well as the manufacturing and healthcare industries in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The recognition comes on the back of the company’s spiralling success which has seen turnover grow from £12 million in 2012 to a projected £30 million this year.

First established by Wilson in 1989 Panther Warehousing enjoyed continuous growth over more than 20 years. Appointing Colin as MD in 2011 the company moved away from general haulage to focus on one niche area – next-day, two-man delivery – and to develop it to its full potential.

The bold move quickly reaped dividends. What started as a concept very quickly took the market to a whole new level – setting a benchmark for others to follow.

In fact the Panther offering made such an impact on shaking up the market that even now Colin and Wilson constantly review their offering to ensure they continued to stay several steps ahead of their competitors. Indeed it is this inherent understanding of the needs of their customers which has been at the core of the company’s success.

Since the birth of Panther in its new guise the company has moved its HQ from Crick – at the heart of the UK motorway network – to nearby Northampton. As well as the two sites it also operates four others – in Peterlee, Taunton and Leeds.

The company has also made substantial investment in its internal systems to ensure they are robust enough to support its rapid growth. Customer services, IT and Panther’s revolutionary app are among the facilities developed to support the expansion of the company.

The company’s vision and its dedication to heavy investment are key factors in Panther’s success story and key reasons for its success so far in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Adrian Roberts, Midlands Entrepreneur of the Year Leader at EY said: “Our 2015 finalists are all exceptional entrepreneurs who have driven the expansion of their companies by developing strong and often differentiated propositions through outstanding leadership.

“Many of them remained resilient throughout the downturn and are prospering today in the improving economy.

“Investment in technology and innovation and domestic and international expansion are just some of the ways these entrepreneurs are growing their businesses and positioning themselves for further expansion over the years ahead. These dynamic, fast growing companies and the people behind them are vital to the Midlands’ national and global competitiveness, and these awards rightly recognise their success.”

The winners will be announced at the Midlands final at Birmingham Town Hall on June 16th.

The regional winners will go on to compete for the coveted title of EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 and will have the chance to represent the UK at a global ceremony in Monte Carlo in 2016.
