PLANET ‘PLATFORMS’ WAH WORKSHOP ‘08

Work at height specialist Planet Platforms organised a Work at Height (WAH) Workshop on the 2nd and 3rd of July at their new premises in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, to give people the opportunity to try out access equipment first-hand.

Supported by Barclays Bank PLC and Chadwick Lawrence solicitors, these workshops were a follow-up to last year's Retail WAH Workshop, which was organised by Planet to promote safe working at height within retail and featured prominent speakers from KPMG, the HSE, IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health), and the access industry.

This year's Work at Height (WAH) Workshop saw delegates from last year come back to try out the equipment and discuss access requirements on a one-to-one basis. Opened to an exclusive delegate list, the workshops were attended by some of the country's top businesses. Invitations were also extended to those delegates who didn't get a chance to attend the Retail Work at Height (WAH) Workshop last October.

Tim Mee, Marketing Manager at Planet said: "Last year's Retail WAH Workshop was very well received by the delegates and press. Whilst it was an event that focused on the key health and safety issues, the feedback we received was that many people would have liked to try out the products."

"These workshops were organised for people to do exactly that. The only other opportunity to see and try out access equipment is at an exhibition but we wanted to organise something that was more personal and informal."

Each day was broken into a morning and afternoon session. Delegates were given a brief presentation of topical health and safety issues such as the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) European campaign and focus on risk assessment and the falls from vehicles campaign before product demonstrations in Planet's new 24,000 sq ft building.

"It's important to realise that the HSE will carry out enforcement and prosecution on cases where inadequate health and safety puts workers at risk. As a work at height specialist, our job at Planet is to help people work safely at height to minimise the risk of the job they're doing and stay on track to follow the guidance set by the HSE", said Tim Mee.

Products shown at the day included: PROdeck™, Power Tower™, JLG's 10MSP, JLG's 1230ES, Protec (GRP towers), Instant UpRight's aluminium towers, Alutec (Aluminium towers by Planet), mobile trailer scissor lift TP9000™ and more.
