Pro2Pac has unveiled the winner and shortlisted entries in its popular Fresh Ideas awards scheme and is currently showcasing the creative pack designs at ExCeL London.
The revolutionary ‘cardcan’ from itsu was named the overall winner, recognising the environmentally friendly iced tea pack’s pioneering status as the only cardboard drink can on the UK market.
The can, which launched in Waitrose stores across the UK in February, has a smaller carbon footprint than aluminium cans or plastic bottles and is fully recyclable. Judges praised the can for being "on brand" and for representing "where out of home drink packaging needs to go".
The other finalist entries currently on display at ExCeL include the KURME3 pouch from the Turkish dried fruit manufacturer DKG Food, which is a unique design featuring three vacuumed separable products, allowing a combination of different fruits and nuts to be packaged and offering first-day freshness for each portion.
Also shortlisted was the Coco Juice PET Range from Green Coco Europe, which is a pure organic coconut juice in an attractively designed pack.
Christopher McCuin, Pro2Pac Event Director commented: "There were some great entries to this year’s awards. The finalist and shortlisted entries brilliantly demonstrated how creative packaging solutions can tick all the boxes, offering environmental benefits, along with consumer convenience and on-shelf stand out."
