RENEW has supported the creation of the Community Recycling Network North East (CRNNE) which was launched last week (13th October) to support the growth of the recycling sector in the region.
RENEW facilitates and delivers commercial energy and environmental technology projects across North East England and commissioned a feasibility study into the establishment of a regional Community Recycling Network.
John Barton, Project Director, RENEW said: "The new Community Recycling Network North East will provide leadership and a voice for the emerging community waste sector in the region and will also feed into the North East Sustainable Resources Board. The North East is one of a number of regions which did not have a CRN base in its area and by establishing one we have created a new company and one new job''.
"As part of the work RENEW undertakes, we foster connections to help businesses help each other through sharing opportunities and best practice, and this network will encourage just that for this growing sector."
CRNNE is a membership organisation representing the Community Waste, Recycling and Reuse Sector for the North East that offers a one-stop-shop for organisations and projects working in this important sector and will deliver a broad spectrum of activities and initiatives aimed at supporting and growing the sector in the North East.
Sue Robertson, Community Recycling Network North East Coordinator said of the launch: "CRNNE has been established to provide targeted support and represent the interests of community waste, recycling and re-use enterprises within the North East. It will aim to provide an environment where these organisations can thrive by providing opportunities to collaborate and identifying market opportunities for those within the network.
"We have identified around 40 community enterprises actively involved in recycling and waste management activity that we hope will come on board as full members and are also hoping that all the local authorities will join as associate members. Initial feedback from the event has been excellent with all of the community enterprises present commenting that they had enjoyed the event and had gained something positive from it."
RENEW facilitates and delivers commercial energy and environmental technology projects across North East England and is committed to ensuring the region is at the forefront of the UK's low carbon and sustainable energy drive.
