Conveyor designer & manufacturer Rusmail has supplied equipment to Northumbria University Library & Learning Services to move stock to and from the Bibliographic Services section.
Rusmail developed the counter top system to reduce manual handling for library staff and prevent the need for lifting heavy boxes of books from the floor to desk height.
Building Surveyor, Cheryl Moore says: "Over 20,000 books a year are delivered to Northumbria Library. This system was chosen to speed up the delivery and unpacking process and protect staff from bad backs caused by too much bending and lifting".
The very simple system uses gravity rollers to move boxes of archive data around at waist height. The 11 metre circuit has ball tables at either end to facilitate easier turning of materials through 90° at these points. A manual lift-up gate at one end assists with loading onto the conveyor.
