Ryder provides customised trucks to Viking Wholesale

Ryder has worked with Viking Wholesale, the nationwide tyre distributor, to supply, design and customise two 7.5 tonne DAF LFs which have entered service on contract hire at Viking depots in Edinburgh and Tonbridge.

Viking, alongside National Tyres, is part of Axle Group Holdings, and had previously used standard 7.5 tonners supplied by OEMs. Due to their standard body length and height, these were not optimised for the company’s unique payload requirements.

“We use these trucks primarily for transport of light commercial and high performance tyres, which, due to their weight, meant that we could never fill our previous 7.5 tonners to capacity,” comments Stewart Mackenzie, purchase and logistics manager. “The opportunity to work with Ryder enabled us to design a specification including shorter and lower height bodies that provide increased payloads. In addition, the switch to DAF LFs has been very well received by our drivers.”

Robin White, Ryder’s sales and marketing director, comments, “The opportunity to work with Viking on a vehicle specification that better meets their operational needs is typical of the methodology we use at Ryder. We don’t just replace like with like but carefully review a client’s operational requirements and work with them to supply a solution that maximises efficiency.”
