Safeware annual user conference 2007

Specialist chemical consultants and software company Safeware Quasar is delighted to announce details of its 2007 user conference.

This full-day event takes place at the Forest of Arden Hotel and Golf Club, Stratford-upon-Avon on 7th March 2007 and we are delighted to be hosting a prestigious line-up of guest speakers including Dr Karen Duff of Unilever and Robin Foster from the Health & Safety Executive.

Also joining us will be the ever-popular Bob Warner of Chemwise, whose insightful presentation was the one of the highlights of the 2006 conference. This time, he will be presenting the latest news from the REACH commission and discussing what it will mean for businesses.

Guest Speakers

The Safeware Annual User Conference 2007 will bring together some of the industry’s leading experts to offer insight and advice on the latest legislation, implementation and regulatory issues:

Bob Warner – Chemwise

Preparing for REACH

Bob is principal of Chemwise Associates and the UK’s leading expert on Global Harmonisation, REACH, COSHH and CHIP. He will be presenting the latest news and timeframes from the REACH commission. As a specialist in this field and part of the Safeware REACH working group, Bob is particularly well-placed to advise on the not-too-distant future impact of REACH and what training and processes companies need to start putting in place. He will also be unravelling some of the mystery behind the terminology and explaining its implications.

Dr Karen Duff – Unilever

PRODUCE report: Unilever shares its experiences

Dr Duff will be discussing PRODUCE (Piloting REACH On Downstream Use and Communication in Europe), the European Commission partnership set up to establish and test the workability of REACH, and giving her perspective on Unilever’s experiences.

Robin Foster – Head, International Chemicals Unit, Health & Safety Executive

GHS: the impact on downstream legislation

Robin joins us to talk about the new GHS legislation and how it will replace the current provisions on classification and labelling of chemicals. Many current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation refer to the existing rules, and Robin will discuss how the new rules will fit in with existing legislation and the likely impact on downstream legislation.

Wendy Cameron – Consultant

GHS: EU implementation

Wendy will present the latest GHS implementation timetable and transition periods, which follow a period of internet consultation. She will also be highlighting major differences between the systems and how they may impact the chemical industry.

Richard Elsmore – JSC Consulting

Biocides: past, present and future

Richard will be providing an insight into the regulatory environment within Europe and in particular the impact of the Biocidal Products Directive (BPD). He will be discussing what is required for both active ingredients and formulated biocidal products to obtain approval, and will also offer practical advice for companies having to generate dossiers for both active substances and formulated products.

Lisbeth Mygind – Danish Toxicology Centre

Product registration in Scandinavia

Lisbeth will present an overview of the product registration process in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Desmond Waight – Dan Goods

UK Legislation update

With so much attention on the long term with GHS and REACH, it is easy to forget the legislation changes which are just around the corner. Desmond Waight provides a practical overview of the forthcoming changes in the UK legislative calendar.
