Scafftag helps firms reduce fork lift icidents

Scafftag – the UK's leading supplier of equipment safety tagging and monitoring systems – is putting its weight behind National Fork Lift Safety Week by offering a free vehicle inspection guidance pack and one-to-one assessment.

Available to request now from www.scafftag.com/forkliftsafety, the pack contains a free forklift inspection guide poster, fact sheet and monitoring system guides to help companies improve their inspection record during the most dangerous month for fork lift accidents.

Tying into the Fork Lift Truck Association's (FTLA) campaign to tackle the industry's safety record, Scafftag is calling on the organisations' members and other users to better equip themselves with the correct tools to inspect, record and monitor their assets on-site.

Jonathan Edwin, Scafftag's General Manager, says: “Often it takes a fatality or a national awareness campaign such as this to remind people that a better approach to site inspections could prevent many accidents.

“Our Scafftag Equip forklift pack and a range of other advice is freely available from our website, but we also recognise that every company is unique. That's why we also encourage firms to take up our free on-site assessment, which systematically applies legal requirements and good practices to inspections and identifies how well current processes fulfil them.

“It's pre-arranged and carried out by a dedicated expert who will make firm recommendations at the end of their visit. Past experience shows that they can be a vital tool to benchmark and improve business performance.”

Scafftag also advises duty holders to take advantage of the HSE's site inspection checklist to bring their sites up to a safe standard. Download here: www.hse.gov.uk/workplacetransport/checklist/index.htm

National Fork Lift Safety Week runs from 22nd to 28th September and includes the National Fork Lift Safety Conference, which takes place on 25 September.

Coupled with this, the FLTA has called for entries to its Annual Awards for Excellence 2009. Winners will receive the famous solid bronze 'Archie' statuette – acknowledged as the materials handling industry's ultimate accolade – at a glittering ceremony in February 2009.
